sonnen wins world-renowned Zayed Future Energy Prize

Wildpoldsried, 16 January 2017 - sonnen won the Zayed Future Energy Prize, one of the highest remunerated prizes for special innovations in the energy sector. sonnen CEO Christoph Ostermann accepted the $1.5M prize at the opening of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi. sonnen is the first energy storage company to receive the prize in the “Small and Medium Enterprise” category.

“It is a huge award to receive for our young company, we see it as the Oscar of the energy world. It shows that our company’s aim for a clean and affordable energy and our strength in innovation are being recognized internationally at the highest levels.”, says Christoph Ostermann, CEO of sonnen.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize has been awarded since 2008. The other 2017 prize winner  is US technology group General Electric, who won in the “Large Corporation” category.

The international jury, presided over by former President of Iceland Grimsson, selected sonnen as the winner out of numerous highly innovative international applicants. The prize was awarded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi.

In the last year, sonnen has received many awards for its fast growth and was listed by MIT as one of the 50 most innovative companies in the world.
